What is Hill Therapy?

Hill Therapy is a program created by Parelli to help any horse learn to push with his hindquarters, lighten his forequarters and strengthen his top line. Therefore creating a stronger and more naturally collected horse, making riding and advanced maneuvers easier for the horse and rider. To learn more please email Parelli by clicking here.

June 6, 2008 - Week 5, Day 2

Bebe for the very FIRST time started to put his head down and stretch into the hill! I can't wait to see him in our next session, I am so excited he is stretching out! I may want to do hill therapy another week just to make sure he really has it because he is starting so late on stretching.

June 3, 2008 - Week 5, Day 1

I could tell a HUGE difference in him today! As soon as I started the session he didn't need anytime to get collected or experiment with himself, he was tight, slow and rounded in the circle right away! I am sorry I haven't been able to post videos, my camera has gone missing thanks to a close family member but hopefully very soon I will have it back. You will be amazed with the results!

May 29, 2008 - Week 4, Day 2

He was really slow moving and tight in the circle today, he didn't try to slow down to a walk but he was at the nicest jog. I need to video it as soon as I get my camera chip back, you will be very surprised with the results.

May 22, 2008 - Flat Halter

I used a 'Webbed' or flat halter on Bebe this time for Hill Therapy so it would encourage stretching, well he stretched out some! Not enough, but did some.

May 9, 2008 - Week 1, Day 7

Bebe did really really good today! He didn't try to canter as much at all and as you can see in the video he stretched out once going up the hill. It's going great! Compare videos from day 2 or 3 to day 7, there's a good difference there.

May 8, 2008 - Week 1, Day 6

Bebe did great again today, still experimenting with his gaits though! You can see a physical difference in his body, he is gaining so much muscle on his neck and hindquarters. This is going to be great for him, I cannot wait to ride him after it is all over... he is going to feel like a dream!

May 7, 2008 - Week 1, Day 5

The past couple days I have seen a physical change in Bebe.
His crest, neck, croup and lower hindquarters have gained muscles but those are the only the most visible surprising areas. They are also the areas that desperately needed some muscles, good thing! And that was after only 4 days! He will look like he is on steroids by week 6. He was very polite the whole time, all the while he was experimenting with his body liking his lips and changing gaits while being left brained and I doing nothing. He is a very smart horse and a people pleaser, which will make this process easier for both of us. I cannot see the results in another couple of days, what a great journey!

Ugh! It's okay.

I sadly had to miss hill therapy today, I hope I will be able to continue today because this is a process that is not supposed to be interrupted... really not supposed to be interrupted.

May 4, 2008- Week One, Day 4

I noticed a difference in him today, He did not look as stressed and did not try to canter any.

He's a good boy and doing great!

May 3, 2008 - Week 1, Day 3

Video One - Cantering

Video Two - Trotting

Today Bebe did great as usual, he is still experimenting with himself though which is a good thing! He decided to canter once a little bit to the left, then on the right he cantered mayeb 5 times but soon found everything easier at a slow trot. Progression is being made no doubt, he is getting stronger by the day. Does it look like he is pulling with his forequarters or pushing with his hindquarters?

Bebe at Walk Video

Here is small clip of Bebe, showing how he walks. Note he even pulls heavily with his forehand at the walk, I do believe wanting to complete Level 3 and doing advanced maneuvers on him would be very hard for both of us if he stayed in this condition.

May 2, 2008 - Week 1, Day 2

Bebe had no trouble today with the hill from what I am able to observe, but of course I can see him mentally trying to figure out the way he wants to move. He goes from smaller to bigger circles, and bigger to smaller trots experimenting with himself. He only tried once, only for a few seconds to the right cantering, unlike yesterday in which he opted to canter up the hill about every time. This is so interesting for me, I love doing things like this. I love to learn and I do believe this will be beneficial for both of us very much. I have a small video here to the side that shows the way he moves up a hill, any comments?

May 1, 2008 - Week 1, Day 1

We picked a nice hill on the other side of our dam, perfect for hill therapy.

At first Bebe wanted to canter up the hill, I wonder what that means?

Then by the end of the session he was at a slow jog the whole time, good.

Tomorrow will be interesting, I will post pictures of the hill we are using.
